Veterinary medicine is a second career for David. He received a PhD in Zoology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1985 and worked there as the collections manager in herpetology at the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology until 1990. From 1990 until 1996 he was an assistant professor of Zoology at Louisiana State University and in 1996 he decided to switch careers and enrolled in the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine.
Since graduating he has worked as a veterinarian in New Brunswick, Kentucky, British Columbia, and now is happily ensconced at Cavan Hills.
