    Heartworm

A blood test is the diagnostic aid for canine heartworm disease.

We strongly recommend testing your dog every spring.
If your dog falls into one of the categories below, a test is required this year.

1.      Puppies born
 before October 1st

 2009
2.     All adult dogs

Q: What type of Preventive Heartworm Medication does my dog need?

Our recommendation for Heartworm/Flea prevention
is

 “Sentinel”

       or
“Advantage Multi”

Q What is Heartworm

Heartworm disease is caused by an infection with the parasitic worm

Dirofilaria Immitis

Phillipa

No symptoms of the disease are apparent until the disease is very advanced.
The symptoms of heartworm disease develop gradually over many months, and closely resemble those of congestive heart failure.
In severe cases, the dog will have difficulty breathing and sometimes coughing, is very intolerant of exercise, and will become lethargic and have a decreased appetite.

Pet Dentistry
Did you know that 80% of dogs and 70% of cats over age 3 have some oral disease?
Have you looked closeley at your pets mouth.....

Imagine how your teeth would look if you didn’t clean them everyday or visit the dentist?
Without dental care, bacteria in the mouth can enter the bloodstream, travel to major organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys, and even the brain. Damage to these organs caused by infection can seriously compromise the health of your pet and in turn shorten its’ life!
Your pet cannot tell you when its mouth hurts.
Have you noticed foul breath, red, swollen and bleeding gums, broken teeth, drooling or loss of appetite? If you answered YES to these questions, your pet is suffering from dental disease. Bad breath is caused by bacterial build up on the teeth and it is one of the first signs of the early stages of dental disease.

One of the most important things you can do to insure your pet's health is to provide regular dental care. Believe it or not, the teeth in your pet's mouth are not much different than your own, and the same level of care should be used when addressing your pet's oral care.

As you can imagine, if your teeth were not brushed regularly, they would not look or feel very healthy. Even with regular brushing, your teeth need to be professionally cleaned usually once a year.

The same is true with your pet, be it a dog or cat

At Cavan Hills Veterinary Services pet dentistries are performed almost every day.
Our Special price is NOW all year round!!!
Bring out your pets best smile....call us

CHVS Staff Chatter

Our staff are “Simply the Best”… we think so and we know that you..our client and most importantly your pet does too.

We have approximately 30 staff members including doctors at Cavan Hills Veterinary Services, and every single one of them absolutely loves animals. It is a definite job requirement here.

All of them go far and beyond the call of duty when it comes to caring for your pet.

Most of our staff are well known, the receptionists and the doctors especially, but there are many more staff at CHVS that perhaps you have not had the opportunity to meet yet either because they are new,  or their job does not specify interaction with the client, but their responsibility is completely caring for the patient.
All of our staff have a vital role in “making the wheels turn” and they are all very much needed to run a very busy animal hospital.

If you browse our menu on the left hand side…scroll down to “Our Hospital”,click on there and it will open up another menu, simply click on OurStaff.pml
This will give you an opportunity to meet all of our staff and perhaps enable you to put a name to the faces that you see when you come to Cavan Hills Veterinary Services.

Since our last newsletter of Spring 2009 here are a few bits of clinic chatter!!!!

Dani Jamieson       is our Hospital Supervisor.  Dani excels at this position and oversees  all the day to day happenings of running our busy hospital.
                   Dani and her friend CoCo

Jennifer Morgan our Reception Supervisor has been on maternity leave. We are very proud to announce that last August she gave birth to the most beautiful little baby boy “Brayden”
 Brayden (L) and his friend
Jennifer has returned to our clinic part time, we missed her a lot.
Welcome Brayden!!

Meredith Cockerill Wright, has also been very busy. She married her childhood sweetheart John August 2008. Meredith was a stunningly beautiful bride as you can see in the photo..John is a lucky fellow indeed. Congatulations to you both!!!

With 30 staff onboard, it would take a book to write all the" happenings over the last year" so at the bottom of our menu to the left and also throughout our website is a collage of photos for you to enjoy.

Be sure to say “Hello” next time you drop by!
Thank you for reading our newsletter please view the rest of our website for all the latest updates. CHVS Home.pml

We hope that you, our friends and clients have a wonderful spring and summer.
Remember we are here for you and your pet seven days a week.
